The pistol is definitely of the Napoleonic War era and is likely a French cavalryman's gun. It measures 14 1/2" long overall with an 8" barrel. The lock is lightly engraved and appears to be a civilian piece of the same era. The metal has a worn, gray patina throughout. The wood shows a lightly worn untouched finish where original with some restoration work done including very carefully refitted pieces around and forward of the lock. Original brass butt cap with lanyard, triggerguard, and barrel band show a toned patina. Original iron ramrod. The action functions well and the frizzen snaps shit and springs forward securely. There is an old repair to part of the frizzen's hinge. Also mounted are two brass military buttons and a nicely carved wood "Fleur-de-lis". The frame measures 24 3/4" x 17 1/4" and was mounted by Cobb's Frames in Elk Grove, California. This is a very impressive and attractive display that will add some wonderful 19th century flair to any room! No FFL required on pre-1899 firearms or contemporary muzzleloaders.
